UNIFYING THE HAITIAN DIASPORA FOR DEVELOPMENT

UNIDHAD

Historicity

Haiti is the first black country, free from slavery in the Caribbean. It helped certain countries and influenced others, especially in Africa, where the word freedom had to be written in Creole if Haiti retained its leadership. But instead of continuing to assert themselves, the Haitians unleashed self-destruction shortly after the proclamation of independence with the assassination of the father of the country, Emperor Jean Jacques Dessalines. Since that day, the country has gradually sunk at all levels to the point that we have to go very far into the past when we speak positively about Haiti. Haitians aged 0 to 35 have no role model other than looting, stealing, rape, kidnapping, and destruction of lives and property. Morality is almost non-existent and even the Church is in a state of moral weakness. Haitian society is plunged into uncertainty. The state has no respect for its citizens both inside and outside the country. The division fueled by clichés like:

depi nan ginen nèg rayi nèg "mwen pa konte ze nan vant poul se dèye ti travay mwen m vini poum fè ti kòb poum okipe timoun mwen, poum peye ti bil mwen, poum voye AYTI pou yo achte ti tè, konstwi ti kay, achte ti machin" reigns supreme among the Haitians. This division is taking root within Haitian communities outside the country, leading to abuse and humiliation and serving as a snag for development. Faced with these findings, a group of rebellious young Haitians led by Mr. Jean Ronald JOSEPH decided to set up a movement. Called the diaspora platform, this movement was born in March 2019 with two radio shows under the themes respectively: “Community and Development” every Monday evening from 7 to 9 a.m. and “Forum Bleu” from 10:30 a.m. to noon every Tuesday on Radio Télé Boston to connect the different Haitian communities outside Haiti. The first meetings took place in January 2020 with the help of Mr. Sony Louis and his friends in Haiti and the Dominican Republic such as Mr Wooly Florestant and Me Prezeau. The discussions continued with friends from France followed by a hundred members from everywhere such as Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Provo, Guyana, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Turkey, Senegal, Spain, etc. In April 2020, Unification of the Haitian Diaspora for Development (UNIDHAD) became the definitive name adopted for the movement among various name proposals, this name was unanimous because it translates the expression of thought, of the will and needs of the initiators of this liberating movement. A few months later a Certificate of Operational Authorization would be issued to the Unification of the Haitian Diaspora for Development (UNIDHAD) by the Federal State of the United States, which made UNIDHAD a non-profit business. The importance of this movement shone because Haitians, including leaders who are part of Haitian diplomacy from different countries, could not hide their satisfaction and joy in welcoming the existence of this non-political Diaspora Platform. Despite the barriers of the COVID-19 pandemic of the years 2020, 2021, 2022, and even 2023, UNIDHAD, defying all risks, settled during May 2021 in the Dominican Republic and carried out distributions of money and products of first needs in the Batey and asylums for not only Haitians but also Dominicans and others like Venezuelans. However, she did not stop there because, after opening her office, organizing official launches of some of her Programs such as PPF (Plan Pwoteksyon Fanmi), KPU (Kes Pam Unidhad), PLDDH (Program for Legalization and Defense of Human Rights) to name just a few. She helps young people gain experience and scholarships and meets Haitian leaders and some Dominican authorities. UNIDHAD is not going to take time to become the remedy that Haitian communities like Venezuela, Bahamas, Argentina, Germany, Provo, etc… were waiting for. Furthermore, many of the organized groups ally themselves with UNIDHAD so that the work goes faster and which facilitates UNIDHAD to reach around forty countries until it arrives in Haiti, amid all the socio-political difficulties that cross the Country, in 2023 where it has established itself in the Southern Region and is now discussing its return with some leaders and organizations in the Northern Region of the Country. Unification of the Haitian Diaspora for Development (UNIDHAD) is a socio-economic and cultural platform. Its mission is to bring together all conscious Haitians living abroad and those in Haiti with a view to working for the social and economic development of Haiti. According to the latest United Nations study (United Nations Statistics Division) the Haitian population numbers 11,466,101 and more than 4 million live abroad. Thanks to their economic support, Haitians living abroad already contribute 90% to the survival of the local population. However, this diaspora is eaten away and torn by a chronic division that prevents it from taking its place as it should in development where it is. Conscious and rebellious, UNIDHAD takes on the responsibility of regrouping the Haitian diaspora into a visible force capable of assisting all Haitians, regardless of the country where they reside. UNIDHAD is committed to promoting Haitian culture and creating opportunities for entrepreneurs. It works to promote the professional and artistic talents of young people, initiate a “Mental, Social and Economic Revolution” and initiate training in responsible behavior through a social re-education campaign. In other words, UNIDHAD wants to build a strong community that can introduce the Haitian community living abroad and the entire country of Haiti into a process of sustainable social and economic development. The Unification of the Haitian Diaspora for Development with the acronym (UNIDHAD) is a movement with a non-profit organizational structure in Boston, Massachusetts/USA.
